GORDON and Joy Lake are getting used to celebrating wedding anniversaries.
Earlier this month it was their 65th anniversary, but it was more a time for reflection than celebration.
"We had a very big party for our 60th, our sons and daughters and their families came from all over the country
and we thought it might be a bit much to do it again five years later," Mrs Lake said.
The couple has become an integral and respected part of the Trentham community and now live at Trentham Aged
Care Hostel.
Mrs Lake said Trentham was an ideal place to spend married life.
"There's always something to do here. You shouldn't ever be bored in Trentham," she said.
"We have found the people in Trentham to be fantastic. We felt accepted as soon as we moved here. It's important
to be accepted in a small country town," Mrs Lake said.
Mr and Mrs lake raised two daughters and a son.
The couple, which met in Melbourne the same year they were married, also has nine grandchildren and 11 great
grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Lake both said showing common courtesy and the ability to give each other space were the keys to
enduring a 65-year marriage.
