Youth band to hijack Glenfest

23 Jan, 2007 10:31 AM
GLENLYON'S youth band Hijackd will rock the town's second music festival next weekend.

The four member band, aged between 12 and 13, has entered the Battle of the Bands competition, which will take place at Glenfest between 12pm and 2pm at the Glenlyon Recreation Reserve on Saturday, February 3.

Consisting of Tom Micklewright-Hill, Charley Phypers, Declan Ryan and Darcy Shewell, Hijackd formed a year ago.

The rock-and-roll band has played at Glenfest 2006, the Swiss-Italian Festa, the Glenlyon General Store and the Old Hepburn Hotel.

Charley, who gets his music ability from his parents, said the group formed because they thought they would enjoy it.

He said the band was inspired by hard rock band AC/DC and the Rolling Stones.

Hijackd practise about every two weeks in a studio at Charley's house in Glenlyon.

Darcy said he was looking forward to playing in his home town at Glenfest.

"It's exciting to perform in front of a crowd," he said.

The band plays two songs from AC/DC and has written three of their own.

They will perform for about half-an-hour at Glenfest.

Glenfest tickets cost $40 family, $10 concession and $20 adults. Tickets can also be purchased at the Glenfest website glenfest.com.au
