A 32-MONTH driving suspension may signal the end of the road for an 82-year-old Wheatsheaf man who was found to be more than three times the legal drink-driving limit.
Through an interpreter, Dobriv Nedeljkovic pleaded guilty in Ballarat Magistrates Court to one charge of driving over the prescribed alcohol limit.
Police prosecutor leading senior constable Steven Kent told the court Nedeljkovic had been seen driving erratically around Daylesford in February this year.
He said when police approached Nedeljkovic at the Daylesford Royal Hotel in Vincent Street he admitted to driving himself to the hotel.
Nedeljkovic agreed to accompany police to the Daylesford police station for a breath test, he said.
The test revealed a blood alcohol reading of .161, leading senior constable Kent said.
Defence lawyer Amanda Hurst said her client had barely slept the night before.
"This is the first time he has been to court and he very much regrets what has occurred," Ms Hurst said.
She said cancellation of her client's licence would cause him and his wife great inconvenience and he would be unlikely to re-apply for it.
Ms Hurst told the court Nedeljkovic's car was now parked in a paddock and that his son had taken the keys.
Magistrate Kay Robertson told Nedeljkovic drink driving was a dangerous offence no matter what your age.
"You may have held a licence for a long time but if you drink and drive you are (a danger)," Ms Robertson said.
"I must cancel your licence and I do that for 32 months starting from February this year."
She also fined Nedeljkovic the minimum amount of $250 as it was his first offence.
