DEAR Mr Rudd and Mr Brumby,
Firstly, thanks for the $80,000 for the bushfire memorial. I know we didn't suffer as much as so many others but it was good of you to think of us.
Anyway, we've all had a bit of a think about that money and would rather just use it for a mobile memorial - you know, like a light tanker - if you don't mind.
We're sure you won't.
You see, we did have a fire, and sadly lost stock and one house, but no-one died so the memorial wouldn't really be something anyone would have a reason to visit.
I mean, I could go and sit there and think about the night at the Kyneton Caravan Park, or how I had to drag the dogs into the office rather than risk leaving them at home or my husband's answer of ``fresh undies'' when I asked what he wanted in a grab bag.
But that would be kind of dumb and pointless - like the guidelines which seem to be saying we can't buy a much-needed tanker so that we hopefully won't need a memorial next year or the year after or the one after that.
I know there's something written somewhere about the memorials needing to be publicly accessible but isn't there something, somewhere, about fire risk areas needing to be CFA accessible?
Oh, I'm not sure if you remember, Mr Brumby, but after the fires you met with Leonards Hill CFA captain Sue Waters.
She was the exhausted one who had spent days fighting the fires here. We drove up the back of her patch, and it was like mountain goat country, and she actually asked you then if there was any chance of a 4WD slip-on. Remember?
Anyway, that's why we need that money - for something quick and light, not something made of stone or another garden. We've got lots of them already.
Look, I'll just leave it with you. You both seem sensible blokes. I am sure you'll do the right thing.
Cheers, Donna
