YOUTHS in Hepburn Shire are in good hands.
The shire's youth development co-ordinator Dani Richardson is a fun, down-to-earth person who has a passion for the youth of today.
Her role is not an easy task considering the wide spread of youths, aged between 11 and 25, in the shire.
Previous jobs and her ninth year in youth work reflect positively on Ms Richardson's ability to work with youths.
She has worked for the Pyrenees Shire Council as a community facilitator and as a youth development co-ordinator at Lenzone Youth Resource Centre in Stawell.
"I did program work with schools," she said.
In her current role, Ms Richardson helps council set up directions with youth policy and youth strategy, helps youth workers, liaise with police and the Blue Light organisation and sources funding for people who come up with a good proposal.
"It's a really enjoyable job. There is never a dull moment. Young people are really honest," Ms Richardson said.
She likes having fun at work and helping people enjoy their communities more.
"A lot of other people jump in and tag with me," she said.
Ms Richardson has welcomed youths Charley Anderson and Billy Lawrence who are advent technicians and help out with music for the Blue Light discos.
"Anyone is welcome to jump in and help," she said.
Involving youths in any way she can, Ms Richardson has already proved she is there purely for the youths.
Ms Richardson believes the biggest issue facing the shire's youths is transport.
"It doesn't exist," she said.
"A lot of young people have to go to school out of the shire," she said.
Another issue she believes strongly in is being part of a community.
"Being able to feel part of the community is important," she said.
Ms Richardson said leadership opportunities and training leaders are pivotal in today's society.
"It's important that youths have a say and organise it," she said.
Blue Light co-ordinator youth officer at Daylesford Police senior constable Sean Clarke works closely with Ms Richardson.
"Blue Light members have been on several trips including shopping in Ballarat, the Melton Wave Pool and ice skating."
Plans are underway for an excursion to the Melbourne Show and going on a camp.
Any youth who comes into contact with Ms Richardson will consider themselves lucky to have such a committed and passionate youth development coordinator.
"Anyone easy going is good to hang out with," she said.
