THE Trentham ReGener8 youth group is stepping up to the mark by funding, planning and designing its own BMX track and skate park.
The group has found itself at a loss for leisure activities for some years now, with a small, poorly sited skate park without challenging quarter pipes, spines or roll-overs for kids to build up a few skills.
The group has been active in fundraising already, along with youth worker Cate Evans, whose part-time position is funded by Hepburn Shire in partnership with bush fire recovery efforts and the Trentham Neighbourhood Centre.
The group encourages leadership skills among young folk, with youth group member Matt Stevens taking an active role in organising a concert with local bands Bury Me in Autumn and The 4:11 for Trentham SpudFest.
The group is gearing up for the August Trentham Farmers' Market where youngsters Chris Stevens and Jye Reid will run a community sausage sizzle to build on the $850 raised at the gig.
The group will also hold a gourmet sausage sizzle at Trentham Farmers' Market in Trentham Town Square on Saturday, August 21.
The Trentham ReGener8 Youth Group meets Mondays from 4pm at the Uniting Church Hall until the Neighbourhood Centre is rebuilt.
The group plays video games, travels to other stake facilities, learns to cook, plans and designs new youth facilities and generally has fun.
All youths are welcome to join.
