Trentham gets thoroughly wet

24 Nov, 2009 10:45 AM

TRENTHAM was flooded as it recorded the state's highest 24-hour rainfall total at the weekend.

The 24-hour total to 9am Sunday was 103mm.

At Bullarto 71mm fell during the same period, while 51mm was recorded at Clunes.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Peter Blake said the heavy rainfall was produced by a combination of moist air from the tropics and a low pressure system.

"It was quite humid (on Saturday). That gave an indication of how moist it is. Once you get a system around . . . you can get some good rainfall out of that," Mr Blake said.

Ballarat State Emergency Service duty officer Catherine Orgata said members were kept busy for almost 12 hours on Sunday. Crews from Hepburn, Ballarat and Maryborough worked from 6am to 5.30pm on Sunday at 34 incidents in the region.

Ms Orgata said most were in relation to flooding, but there had been some incidents of damage to roofing.
