CRESWICK residents have welcomed a new bus timetable with 31 extra trips to Ballarat.
Victorian Transport Minister Peter Batchelor said people would have more frequent and convenient services in an important transport boost for the Creswick community.
"We have listened to local residents and are providing these bus services to help meet their public transport needs," he said.
"These improved services will ensure smaller communities have access to vital transport services and to the revitalised regional rail network."
The Davis Bus Service started the new timetable on Monday. It includes a new Ballarat Transit Sunday service running two return trips a day between Creswick and Ballarat, two extra weekday return trips and three extra Saturday
return trips for Ballarat Transit's Creswick to Ballarat service, and an extra late night service on all 12 routes of the Ballarat Transit Bus network starting this Friday.
Ballarat East MLA Geoff Howard welcomed the announcement saying the services would increase the transport options for many residents and give parents a break from running the family taxi service.
"Young people can use the weekend services to get to and from their jobs in Ballarat - much to the relief of their parents," he said.
"The elderly and people who don't drive will also find the extra range of services a great convenience."
Creswick ward councillor Janine Booth welcomed the service and said there would be a large increase in the number of users out of hours.
She said services had been limited between Creswick and Daylesford.
"A lot of people commute from Creswick to Daylesford. It would be hard for people in massage and catering who don't work the traditional hours," she said.
"There needs to be a service running during peak hours to cater for people who work in Daylesford."
Belinda Price lives and works in Creswick and uses the bus service to shop in Ballarat. She said the late night service on Fridays was a fantastic initiative.
Departure times across the Ballarat Transit service have been extended later into the night. Five routes will be extended to about 9pm, while another seven will leave town around 7pm.
In addition, a Daylesford to Ballan commuter service and a service connecting Gordon residents to Ballan Station and the regional rail network also started on Monday.
