The march is on to commemorate Anzacs

18 Apr, 2006 12:06 PM
HUNDREDS of people are expected to join ANZAC Day services throughout Hepburn Shire next Tuesday.

Daylesford RSL secretary Max Robbins said a dawn stand-to would be held at the cenotaph at 6.30am followed by breakfast at the RSL at 7am.

A service would be held at Hepburn at 8.30am followed by a 9am service at Eganstown.

Mr Robbins said marchers would then be asked to assemble outside the Daylesford Post Office at 10.30am for the march at 10.50am to the cenotaph.

A service would be held at 11am before marchers returned to the town hall for another service.

A lunch was being held at the Daylesford RSL at 12.30pm, he said.

The guest speaker was Ballarat councillor Geoff Hayes, an Air Force Reserve member for 20 years.

Mr Robbins said that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the advertised times for the morning service had been changed.

Mr Robbins said there was always "a good turn-out" with returned service people being joined by school students and girl guides.

"We are all getting a little long in the tooth," he said. "If we don't have the kids then it's not going to last much longer."

Clunes RSL secretary Betty Duncan said an 11am service would be held at the cenotaph followed by an 11.30am service at the town hall.

Marchers, led by the University of Ballarat Pipe Band, would assemble outside the RSL in Fraser St at 10.45am, she said.

Major Fiona Davis would address the town hall service.

"We have a fairly traditional service and usually have a few hundred lining the streets," Ms Duncan said. "It is quite a big day with lots of good support from the townspeople."
