Tank availability dries up as demand outstrips supply

24 Oct, 2006 11:44 AM
A TANK manufacturer has had to stop taking orders because it cannot keep up with the demand.

A1 Water Tanks, which manufactures and sells galvanised water tanks and also sells Polymaster tanks, and Central Highlands Garden Supplies owner Sonja Ridge said the business had been selling seven to 12 tanks a week more

than usual at this time of year.

Ms Ridge said most consumers were worried about their gardens.

"We could sell more but we cannot keep up with the demand," she said.

"We have closed our books. We are turning people away."

Ms Ridge said there were some Polymaster tanks on order from people in the Daylesford area.

She said in her 20 years of manufacturing tanks, this was the busiest.

Davies and Rose Rural Supplies in Creswick is also experiencing a high demand in tank sales.

Manager Jamie Davies said he was still selling PolyMaster and Bushmans water tanks, but there was a wait of between three and eight weeks.

"We have never had a demand like this before," he said. "We will keep taking orders."

Mr Davis said consumers from the surrounding districts, were buying the tanks for drinking water and their stock. He said people were also buying pumps.

Trentham's Brindabella Spring Water, water cartage, owners Thomas and Sally Walsh said they were prioritising their consumers.

"We can supply to swimming pools, but we are prioritising people who are out of water," Mr Walsh said.

He said autumn was generally the busiest time of the year, but it is busier now.

"It's a very topical subject at the moment," Mr Walsh said. Leg 1
