Talbot to be put in focus

14 Aug, 2007 10:36 AM
TALBOT Tourism Inc has announced a package of developments to promote Talbot as a town of fine food and beautiful things.

The package aims to create a list of first class eating and shopping experiences and encourage more visitors to the early gold town.

Talbot Tourism president Chris Meddows-Taylor said the town, which had witnessed a steady increase in visitors over the last decade, wanted to further increase its tourism.

"While this has all been great, we realised we could not be complacent and needed to create more fine visitor experiences," he said.

"Visitors want to shop and have fine places to enjoy good food and wine in addition to the lovely places we have for them to stay."

Talbot has featured on travel television programs Coxy's Big Break and Postcards.

The recently published "Travellers Guide to the Goldfields" lists Talbot among the top ten destinations.

The Talbot Observatory will feature in the Discovery Channel's coverage of the lunar eclipse on August 28.

The package coincides with the opening of four new shops at the site of the former Phoenix House.

Another three shops proposed at Talbot are set to open.

Increased tourism signage, the re-development of a streetscape and the expansion of its Farmers Market are also positive developments for Talbot.

Talbot Tourism vice president Tiffany Titshall said the group wanted to highlight the town's rich heritage.

"It's so important that visitor experiences be kept constantly refreshed and that towns celebrate their unique character," she said.

"With our fine food and beautiful things focus we are working to provide individually styled experiences for the visitors to Talbot."
