Support needed for Gala parade

11 Dec, 2007 09:42 AM
ORGANISERS of Daylesford's reprieved New Year's Eve Gala Parade are urging Hepburn Shire people to support the event.

Committee member Fiona Robson said organisers were keen to justify saving the parade.

It had appeared the event would be cancelled because of reduced volunteer support.

"We would like to ensure people know and are invited to be involved," Ms Robson said.

"The local community is working together to ensure the tradition of gathering in the main street to celebrate New Years Eve continues," she said.

Hepburn Regional Tourism Association president and gala volunteer Carol Hulst said the public had supported plans for the event over the last month.

`'We appreciate the continued involvement of Rotary to support this community event," Ms Hulst said.

Sausage sizzles are held in Vincent St every two weeks to raise money for the event, now and into the future.

"Through the generosity of local volunteers and businesses, including Albert St Butchery, Daylesford and Hepburn Mineral Springs Co, Tonna's Fruit and Vegetables and Daylesford IGA, more than $1000 has been raised so far,"

Ms Hulst said.

The next sausage sizzle is December 22.

The New Year celebrations will take place in Vincent St from 6pm.

Music, stalls, a jumping castle will be included in the night's activities.

The parade will begin at 8pm.

Ms Hulst said more volunteers, donations, stalls and floats were needed.

Children are invited to participate in the parade with a decorated bike or to march with their favourite teddy bear.
