Support fund set to go

17 May, 2007 12:29 AM
A COMMUNITY support fund will be set up in Daylesford with assistance from local internet and phone service Montimedia.

At a public meeting last weekattendees unanimously supported the decision put by the Daylesford Indoor Recreation Committee.

The fund will be set up on a 50/50 profit share basis. By having their phone and internet service provided by Montimedia, customers will assist the community with 50 per cent of all profits being returned.

A committee/working party has been set up comprising eight members who will start the framework for the fund.

Meeting organiser and DIRC chairman Allan Wolf-Tasker said the fund would provide a a "win-win" outcome for the shire.

He said he was happy with the outcome of the meeting.

"If we can get about 1000 subscribers to join the scheme it will be a success. If we can get more, then it will be a huge success and the community of Hepburn Shire will be the winner.

"The good thing about Montimedia's proposal is that subscribers don't all have to live in the shire to be a part of the scheme.

"The proposal that Montimedia has put to our group provides for any individual or business in any state of Australia.

"To join the plan it just means that their profits stay in our community."

DIRC committee member Linda Carroll said Montimedia had a range of competitively priced plans that should suit most people.

"It won't cost you anything to be part of the scheme.

"In most cases phone accounts could be lessened but even when this can't be the case it will still be good knowing that you are assisting the community," she said.

"There is no catch, it's just locals supporting locals.

"Instead of paying my phone account to Telstra I'll be paying it to Montimedia and I have the satisfaction that I'm assisting our community at the same time."

The working party will meet to discuss the next step forward in the establishment and running procedures of the fund.
