SIX Daylesford Secondary College year nine students will head off on an exclusive camp in the Victorian alpine
region this year.
The 10-week trip in term four will give the students a confronting lesson about life, youth and education.
Only three schools across the state can participate in the Victorian Education Department's program.
DSC students were lucky enough to be selected last year for a similar camp at Marlow, where the Snowy River
meets the sea.
Trip co-ordinator Barry McDonald said the students selected for the trip had earlier this year been involved in an
environmental rehabilitation program in the Twin Bridges area of the Wombat State Forest.
They will experience six-day a week classes that don't stop until 8pm. Expeditions across mountains and bridge
building are also on the students' itinerary.
And the kids will have to do without their mobile phones and Mp3 players.
Participant Silkom Powell said she was keen to escape the routine of everyday school life.
"It's a good chance to do something that's not so serious before I start my VCE subjects," she said.
The trip is supported financially by Daylesford's Rotary and Lions clubs.
