DAYLESFORD Business Group would support plans to alter Daylesford's central retail strip.

Several of its members want to do away with centre-row-parking, instead using the space for seating and

landscaping.

They say the current design causes minor car accidents and has poor aesthetics.

Bed and breakfast operator Peter Fitzgerald discussed the plans at a DDBG meeting earlier this month.

Mr Fitzgerald, a business group member, said a focus group would prepare a survey, which will be circulated to

main street users.

Seats, car parks, landscape, toilets, art and signage will all be reviewed in the survey.

The survey would include the opinions of senior citizens, senior school students, business operators and tourists.

"We want to leave it as relatively open for suggestions as possible," Mr Fitzgerald said.

Mr Fitzgerald said the business group would launch a new website in February, where people could download the

surveys.

He said Hepburn Shire Council would be involved in any planning stages.

"We don't want to get bogged with council processes so we will try to work with them as much as we can," Mr

Fitzgerald said.

"The group works well with council and we plan to keep them up-to-date so things are as convenient as possible."

However, heritage overlays could stand in the way of the proposed changes.

"But parking in the centre row isn't exactly part of Daylesford's heritage either," Mr Fitzgerald said.

Mr Fitzgerald also said a bus stop in Vincent St would be better placed in Albert St.

"You can't buy a ticket in the main street anymore, so why do the buses stop there?"

Daylesford police Senior Constable Geoff Davies said Vincent St had a high minor collision rate.

"The circumstances are all the same, where cars are hit while swinging to the edge of the road to try to park in

the centre," Sen Const Davies said.
