THE Glenlyon Sports Club raised $10,600 for local charities and organisations at its New Year's sports day.
The Daylesford Hospital, which is the major recipient of the fundraiser, received $1500 last week.
Glenlyon Sports Club secretary Vince Hayes was delighted with the amount raised on the day through gate takings.
"It was exactly the same as last year," he said. "It's getting close to as good as it's done."
The old-fashioned mixed sports day attracted more than 1300 people to the Glenlyon Recreation Reserve on New Year's day.
The day's highlights included horse events, a gum boot throw, children's races, World Mineral Water Drinking Championship and the Bullboar Sausage Eating Championship.
Glenlyon Sports Club president Des Leonard said the event was in its 151st year.
"It's part of the social scene of Glenlyon," he said.
Hepburn Health Service finance manager and acting chief executive officer Peter Barton said the money would go towards medical equipment.
Other organisations and charities to receive a donation include the Creswick and Trentham hospitals, Royal Children's Hospital, local sporting clubs, girl guides and scouts, pre-schools, music groups and St John of God Ambulance.
