Spa Resort in court over staff issues

16 Apr, 2008 11:17 AM
THE company formerly responsible for managing the Hepburn Spa Resort will go to trial in the Federal Magistrates Court in June.

Locarno Management Pty Ltd and its former managing director Alex Zotos have been accused of pressuring employees over proposed Australian Workplace Agreements.

A hearing was held at the Federal Magistrates Court in Melbourne on Thursday.

Representing the Workplace Ombudsman, lawyer Richard Dalton told the court the company had not complied with previous court orders to inspect documents.

Mr Zotos, representing himself and the company, said there had been difficulty accessing documents due to a dispute with the company's former solicitors.

"We are not seeking to obstruct anyone's case," Mr Zotos said.

He told the court the company had ceased trading in October 2006 and would need to contact more than 80 former employees across Australia to prepare for the trial.

The court heard the company's management of the spa finished when renovations started at Hepburn Spa Resort.

Justice Chris Jessup ordered documents to be available for inspection.

The matter will go to trial on June 23.

Work on the redevelopment at Hepburn Bathhouse began in late October 2006.
