MORE than 400 people gathered at Smeaton Primary School earlier this month to celebrate 100 years of education.
The school has spent the past century on its current site, but originally began on another site down the road in 1860.
The Education Department Grampians region assistant regional manager Peter Henry officially opened the celebrations and congratulated the school on its success.
Among its past and present students were four former students who were more than 90 years old, the oldest being Frank Evans, 95.
The youngest pupil was five-year-old Sean Gervasoni.
Principal Phonse Liddle said a photo display was arranged into three different periods of the school's past, while a number one labelled bottle of Reunion wine was also auctioned for $320.
"This was a fantastic celebration of education and history in Smeaton and provided the opportunity for people to renew old friendships with past students and teachers alike," Mr Liddle said.
He said the school's 150th anniversary would be celebrated in two years, to mark the anniversary since the school's beginning in 1860.
"Everyone is now looking forward to the next get-together in 2010."
