Shire donates $10,000 and resources to appeal

27 Feb, 2009 10:08 AM
HEPBURN Shire ratepayers will donate $10,000 to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

The decision was made at last week's council meeting.

Council staff are also being made available to provide expertise and help for affected councils throughout Victoria.

Mayor Bill McClenaghan said the council's condolences and thoughts were with the Victorian families affected.

"Hepburn Shire Council is pleased to be able to allocate $10,000 to this fund to assist Victorian families with task of having to rebuild their lives after such a devastating event," he said.

Cr McClenaghan said the Municipal Association of Victoria was co-ordinating resource assistance including staff and equipment to help affected councils to work with their communities during the response and rebuilding phases.

"Hepburn Shire Council and other Central Highlands Councils have forwarded a list of staff willing to volunteer, together with their qualifications, to the MAV as part of the coordinated response and requests to send staff have

been received from affected councils," he said.

"Staff are being made available where possible.

"As a result of these fires Victoria has 25 affected municipalities and numerous communities and localities."
