PUBLIC liability insurance was reinstated at the Hepburn Pool on Friday on the condition a ban on swimming remains.
Planning Minister Rob Hulls released a report at the heritage-listed pool in Hepburn Springs on Friday with community members and Hepburn Shire representatives.
Mr Hulls said the pool would be made safer and cleaner, and its natural beauty would be restored under a new plan.
"I've been very pleased that we've been able to find a solution that will make the area around the pool safer, so that insurance can be reinstated without compromising the site's natural amenity and special heritage values," he said.
"However, I must stress that while public liability insurance is effective immediately, the public will not be able to swim in the pool."
Hepburn Pool has been uninsured since 1996 after 10 years of meetings failed to resolve public safety issues.
Mr Hulls said the next step would be appointing the advisory committee to discuss improvements and ongoing management, and to investigate the prospects for restoring the pool for swimming.
The report recommended: improving the walking track from the car park to the viewing area; child safe gates on the track from Hepburn Spa; installing guard rails on the steps; additional or repositioned signs; replacement of the walk bridge; fencing
along both sides of the weir; and resurfacing the concourse.
Hepburn Shire mayor Heather Mutimer said the pool was important for the community.
The report was prepared by journalist Lynne Haultain.
