THE sacred aboriginal ceremonial fire will return to Hepburn Springs, according to aboriginal Dale McDonald.
The fire at the Hepburn Pool site was ignited on September 16 by Aboriginal activist Robbi Thorpe from the remnants of the sacred fire lit at Kings Domain in March .
Aunty Carmel Barry opened the ceremony on behalf of the Dja Dja Wurrung country and its people.
It burned for six days with about 200 people paying their respects and taking part in the ceremony.
The Aboriginal Embassy extinguished the fire and shared the ashes among the people.
Mr McDonald of the Aboriginal Embassy said the ceremony was scared to Aboriginal people and could not reveal the details.
He said the fire would be back because of the strong community support.
"There were people from Melbourne, Gippsland and parts of Victoria," he said.
"Many different cultures came."
Mr McDonald said the sacred fire was about burning 40,000 fires (Australia's age) and "uniting Australia".
He said Aboriginals had lit about 5000 sacred fires.
"The people of the people have the ashes," he said.
Mr McDonald could not say when the sacred fire would return to the Hepburn Pool. He said one would be lit in Traralgon soon.
