Rotary awards Amanda and Val for top job

27 Feb, 2008 09:40 AM
VAL Porter's job at Daylesford Post Office means she gets to know everyone in town, and greets most of them every day.

And after 15 years, she was "humbled" to hear she was one of the winners of Daylesford Rotary Club's business awards last month, taking out the business employee category.

And her love for the job clearly shows.

"I love working here, I know everyone in the town," Ms Porter said.

Her award adds to the post office's other accolades after it won Australia Post's state award for the best post office, and the national award for the best country post office.

Meanwhile, Daylesford Bowling Club's Amanda Kassar won the Hospitality Employee category.

Ms Kassar has worked in hospitality since she was 18, and has worked full-time at the bowling club for two years.

What she loves about her work is that the club is "a typically country place", where the people are friendly and work is enjoyable.

Last week she said she had been overwhelmed to win the award last month, and said her point of difference as a hospitality employee was "making sure you smile".

"It's important to maintain a friendly attitude, which makes everyone feel welcomed, and it's important to create that atmosphere," she said.
