A SOUTH Bullarto resident believes his property will lose value if it is handed from Moorabool to Hepburn Shire.
David Reilly is one of 14 property owners who are being asked to vote on whether they want a pocket of land to be taken over by Hepburn Shire.
The vote comes after resident requests 12 months ago, with residents given packages containing information on issues including rating and valuation comparisons, planning and zoning comparisons, community and health services
and road maintenance.
However Mr Reilly said a letter, dated March 15 from Hepburn Shire's corporate services director Chris Cowley, had informed residents their land would be rezoned as farming.
The letter also said any current planning permits would remain valid despite the zoning change.
The land is currently zoned environmental rural.
Mr Reilly said the change from environmental rural to farming would decrease the value of the land.
It would also make it more difficult to subdivide and build on, he said.
"We have been lied to and I just want to stay in Moorabool," he said.
Hepburn Shire corporate services director Chris Cowley said the residents had "always been told" the move would come with rezoning to farming.
Mr Cowley said if 75 per cent of residents voted for the move to Hepburn Shire, the council would take the matter to the relevant minister.
"To change a boundary shouldn't be about land values, " he said.
"It should be about `where is my community of interest'.
"That should be driving the decision-making process rather than the financial implications."
