Reservoirs drop 20 per cent

23 Jan, 2007 10:27 AM
DAYLESFORD and Hepburn Springs' water supply has dropped 20 per cent in three months.

At the start of November, the Daylesford water supply was at 76.4 per cent of full capacity compared to last week's 55 per cent.

The water supply system consisting of the Bullarto, Hepburn and Wombat reservoirs is holding 453 million litres.

The Wombat Reservoir is at 60 per cent capacity, Bullarto Reservoir 34 per cent capacity and Hepburn Reservoir 100 per cent of full capacity.

Daylesford and Hepburn Springs is on stage three water restrictions which ban the use of fixed sprinkler or dripper systems to water private lawns, gardens and sporting grounds and apply to residents as well as council's watering

of sports grounds and public parks.

Ballarat and district storage levels, including Creswick, are at 16 per cent of full capacity, holding 10,310 million litres.

Creswick is on stage four water restrictions. This bans all outside watering.

Clunes and Dean are on a ground water supply that is not rain dependent and remain on permanent water saving rules.

A Central Highlands Water spokeswoman said the CHW board met on a monthly basis to review water restrictions for their entire water region.

"We encourage residents to make water savings where possible inside their homes and an effective way to do this is by installing a water efficient shower rose," she said.
