POLITICIANS, the Department of Sustainability and Environment and Central Highlands Water were hammered with questions last Thursday as farmers vented their frustration about the Goldfields Superpipe.
Ballarat East MLA Geoff Howard, Western Victoria MLC David Koch, Western Victoria MLC Peter Kavanagh, Western Province MLC Jaala Pulford, CHW chief executive officer Neil Brennan and two representatives from the
DSE listened to questions raised by about 20 farmers.
It was the second meeting held at the Newlyn Football/Netball clubrooms on the proposed superpipe.
Issues relating to the depth of the superpipe, the reinstatement of soil, disease transfers, construction of the superpipe during winter and the proposed route were raised at the meeting.
Mr Brennan said the meeting was the start of the superpipe progress. He said the contract had been signed and tenders would be in by next month.
Mr Brennan said the design of the superpipe, including the depth, had not been completed and the farmers needed to sit down with the contractors and "sort it out".
Mr Koch described the meeting as an "information session".
"I am interested in hearing your concerns. I will be taking today's meeting back into the party room," he said to the farmers.
Mr Howard was confident the project would go ahead.
"We will ensure there is an ongoing supply of water in the future," he said.
"This is a top project. I am confident it will happen."
