THE council has won two awards at the 2009 ECO-Buy Awards held at the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne last week.
The council won Excellence in Green Purchasing Small Rural Council Award for the small rural council purchasing most green products; and the Green Powered Champion Council Award.
The council was also a finalist in a third category recognising Greenhouse Friendly Purchasing.
Mayor Bill McClenaghan said it was a thrill to see the council recognised through the awards as being an organisation that actively bought green products and promoted sustainable practices.
"Council is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and these awards demonstrate our commitment to a sustainable future," he said.
"The council purchases 100 per cent accredited Green Power for our four main council buildings.
"Our total investment in green products amounts to an impressive 4.7 per cent of our total budget, compared to an average of 2.4 per cent for all reporting ECO-Buy local government members."
