A LARGE gathering of past and present teachers, committee members and students is expected to attend Daylesford Preschool's 50th birthday celebrations.
The preschool was combined with the former infant welfare centre which was opened half a century ago.
More than 8000 students have been enrolled since the preschool's inception.
The original building cost 7000 pounds.
The day of celebrations will begin with food stalls, displays and a barbecue lunch.
Daylesford and District Brass Band will provide entertainment.
Event organiser Verna Baker invited community members to a commemorative dinner at the Royal Hotel on July 28 and encouraged people to bring photographs from their preschool days on the night.
Mrs Baker said the preschool was an important asset to the community.
"It's important for children to attend preschool as it is their first step in education," she said.
Mrs Baker said the preschool staff and committee looked forward to the next 50 years of preschooling in Daylesford.
Celebrations start at 11am. For more information contact Mrs Baker on 5476 4201.
