 Political sweetener a big hit

Political sweetener a big hit

WHETHER you prefer John Howard or Kevin Rudd, you can now have them on a stick at Daylesford's Sweet Decadence chocolate shop.

What started as a gimmick has quickly turned into a sticky success for the Vincent St shop, which has been making edible versions of Australia's politicians.

People can "savour your Labor" or "nibble your Liberal".

There are also versions of Julia Gillard and Pauline Hanson - complete with strawberry-flavoured hair - as well as Ballarat MHR Catherine King.

The caricatures have been designed by Ballarat artist Barbara Madden.

Shop owner Pia Cody said the idea came about last month when the shop decided to have its own political poll, to see who was most popular.

Since then, they have made more than 1000 lollipops, which are sold locally and in Canberra.

But they didn't want to disclose how the poll was going at the moment.

"Let's just say, it's very close," Ms Cody said.

"The children especially like Julia Gillard with the strawberry hair; it's just so funny watching people choose them."

One shopper took a Rudd and Howard lollipop and said "they're brilliant - I'll bite his head off".
