Police suspect thefts link

20 Feb, 2007 10:03 AM
POLICE believe two thefts in Trentham are linked to last week's smash and grab at Daylesford's Jenkin and Thomas Retravision.

A sledgehammer is believed to have been used in all the thefts.

On February 11, cash was stolen from a drawer at the Trentham Newsagency in High St where a sledgehammer was left behind.

On the same night, alcohol was stolen from a fridge at the Trentham Football Netball clubrooms.

Trentham police sergeant Greg Falkiner said the fridge had been smashed.

He suspected a car may have been used in the thefts.

Sgt Falkiner said the newsagency's alarm sounded at 10.30pm which may have caused the offenders to flee, leaving tattslotto tickets lying in the gutter.

"The next morning tattslotto tickets were found at Barry's Reef," he said.

Police are investigating the break-ins and thefts which also included $16,000 worth of plasmas, digital cameras and ipods stolen at Jenkin and Thomas Retravision on February 12.

Anyone with information should contact Daylesford police on 5348 2342 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile, on February 13, scaffolding and power tools were stolen from a building site in Blue Mt Rd, Trentham.

A yellow two-person canoe was stolen from a dam at a rural property in east Trentham on or before February 16.

Sgt Falkiner asked anyone who saw anything relating to the thefts to contact Trentham police on 5424 1402 or Crime Stoppers.
