WORK is almost complete at the Blampied intersection on the Midland Highway.
Ballarat East MP Geoff Howard said the $372,000 safety upgrade was one of the first to be funded under the State Government's Greyspot Program.
The realignment of the intersection, improved signage and delineation would make it safer and easier to negotiate, he said.
A fatality involving a truck turning in front of an oncoming motor cyclist in 2001 highlighted concerns over the intersection, which has five approaches converging," he said.
Mr Howard also announced three more road safety projects worth a further $81,000 for the Hepburn region as part of the State Government's Greyspot Program.
They include $12,000 for signage and delineation improvements to the Creswick-Newstead Rd/Westberry Rd intersection near Allendale; $40,000 to widen the road for a left-turn lane, signage and delineation improvements to the Midland Highway/Daylesford-Newstead Rd intersection
at Mt Franklin; and $29,000 for signage and delineation improvements to the Bungaree-Creswick Rd/Daylesford-Ballarat Rd intersection at Pootilla in Moorabool Shire.
Mr Howard said sites were selected according to the layout of the road, speed limit and traffic volumes.
"The Greyspot program is an excellent example of providing effective road safety treatments to protect road users from future crashes," he said.
"While the Blackspot and Safer Road Infrastructure Program target intersections with a recognised crash history, the Greyspot Program targets locations where the possible risk of future crashes has been identified."
