Mill Markets removes Nazi memorabilia

27 May, 2008 12:15 PM
NAZI memorabilia has been removed from The Mill Markets in Daylesford following a complaint from the Jewish community.

Swastikas, an arm band, stamps and Nazi documentation from World War II were removed from sale at

Daylesford's Mill Markets on Sunday.

A member of the Jewish community spotted the memorabilia and complained to the B'nai B'rith Anti-defamation

Commission, which contacted the market manager.

ADC chairman John Searle said market manager Helen Watson apologised and immediately had the offending

items removed.

"Most Australians understand how offensive Nazi memorabilia is, not only to Holocaust survivors but to any one

who deplores racist behaviour," he said.

"We at the ADC need to act swiftly in these cases to protect our community and ensure a new generation does not

become immune to the dangers such extreme views represent."

The Central Springs Road market is one of two under the Mill Markets banner, the other market is in Geelong.

Combined there are 280 stallholders.
