Massaging a Guinness World Record for the sake of Daylesford tourism

09 Feb, 2010 09:46 AM
MASSAGE therapist Allison Aldred will put her skills to good use in March when she joins her colleagues in a Guinness World Record attempt for the largest ever simultaneous massage.

The event organised by Tourism Victoria as part of the $7.3 million "Daylesford. Lead a double life" national campaign, will see qualified massage therapists and Daylesford volunteers take part in a history-making massage at Lavendula Lavender Farm on Tuesday, 30 March.

Participants will be well rewarded for joining in the event by receiving a free professional massage.

"I think it's going to be a fun event that is going to show people what the region is all about," said Ms Aldred, an award winning massage therapist from Peppers Mineral Spa at Peppers Springs Resort, Hepburn Springs.

Daylesford Macedon Ranges Tourism executive officer Graham Middleton said if there was one place in Australia that was going to break the record, this region was it.

"I believe there's a very strong chance to get these numbers," he said.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events Tim Holding said Massage en Masse would give Daylesford the opportunity to show the world why its Australia's spa and wellbeing capital.

"The Daylesford and Macedon Ranges region is a fitting destination for this record attempt as relaxation is the regions greatest export," Mr Holding said.

"Victoria leads the country in depth and diversity of spa and wellbeing products and this unique event will showcase our credentials to the world."

An adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be on hand to certify the new world record.

Tourism Victoria Chief Executive Gregory Hywood urged both qualified massage therapists and volunteers to be part of the fun from 8am-2pm on Tuesday 30 March.

An adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be on hand to certify the new world record.

"All therapists taking part must be fully qualified and insured practitioners, and all volunteers taking part must simply be over eighteen, available at the designated time and happy to be filmed or photographed by media," he said.

Therapists and participants must register their interest at daylesfordrecord.com.au
