A POPULAR Geelong-based market plans to open an additional site at Daylesford's former Daytex site.
Located on the corner of Central Springs Rd and Fulcher St, the former textile factory ceased operations in 2003.
The Mill Markets has transformed North Geelong's once vacant heritage classified woollen mills into a thriving antique, collectables and vintage clothing market featuring more than 100 stalls.
The Mill Markets proposal for the western gateway to Daylesford will accommodate 200 4m by 4m stalls at a cost of $50 per week per stall.
Goods are sold through a central management system operating seven days a week between 10am and 6pm.
The Mill Markets provides a recycling venue where goods are sourced, stored, recycled and displayed for retail sale under a co-operative system where stallholders provide four hours of duty per week to help service the market.
Stallholders enjoy the benefit of no overheads, commission or marketing charges once their four hours of duty per week are performed.
"It really is a stepping stone for small businesses because there are no overheads and we cover all power and insurance costs," managing director Ian Ballis said.
Mr Ballis said The Market Mills had already received more than 40 expressions of interest from antique dealers, artists, designers, and community groups for stalls at the Daylesford site.
Local traders also have the opportunity to showcase their existing business at The Mill Markets via a stall that displays their products and re-directs shoppers to their main business address.
The Mill Market buys and sells everything from the 1970s back to the 1800s including antiques, collectables, building materials, vintage clothing, art, craft, homewares, and giftware.
They will also enjoy a Trading Post type outlet where valuers will be on hand to appraise their trash and treasure for purchase or trade in.
* The Mill Markets will be conducting open days at the Daytex site on Sunday, July 9, and Monday, July 10, between 10am and 4pm for any interested parties to explore the site, learn about the market's vision, and meet with
managing director Ian Ballis and his staff who will be happy to discuss any questions.
