Madigan waits for nod from AEC

31 Aug, 2010 12:48 PM
HEPBURN Springs blacksmith John Madigan was yesterday awaiting confirmation from the Australian Electoral Commission that he had won the sixth Senate seat in Victoria.

The Advocate reported last week that DLP candidate Madigan had won the sixth Senate spot, after electoral commission count 22 saw Family First's Steve Fielding excluded on preferences and count 24 saw the Coalition's Julian McGauran excluded on preferences.

As of going to print yesterday, the DLP was still waiting for the AEC to officially declare the seat before claiming victory.
