IT was love at first sight for Ian and Jean McKay when they met at a Bungaree dance in 1943, vowing to spend a lifetime together.
Tomorrow, they will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary - a day they have been looking forward to.
Mr McKay, from Newlyn, was on leave from the RAAF when he first met Jean Trigg from Bungaree, at a dance in the Bungaree Hall in 1943.
"It just happened," Mrs McKay said.
"It was love at first sight."
The McKays were married on November 24, 1945, in Bungaree.
They made their home in Newlyn on a farm and moved to their current home in Creswick in 1972.
"We've had a great life together," Mrs McKay said.
"We've had a few ups and downs."
The McKays had been married for six years when Mr McKay contracted polio putting him in hospital for 11 months.
Now, the couple have four children and eight grandchildren.
"Having children is the thrill of our lives," they said.
The McKays were happy to point out their famous son, David, who played VFL football for Carlton from 1969 to 1981.
The McKays both agreed sharing and caring was the key to 60 years of marriage.
"It has been so wonderful," Mrs McKay said.
Mr and Mrs McKay's wedding party will join them tomorrow to celebrate the day while family and friends will hold a party in Melton on Sunday.
The McKays have been involved in many district activities in Newlyn and Creswick including the Anglican Church, the Red Cross, the Newlyn-Dean Fire Brigade and Creswick Senior Citizens Club.
