A PLANNED state-of-the-art Tourism and Interpretive Centre at Creswick will receive $450,000 under a Labor Government.
Ballarat MHR Catherine King made the announcement Monday, and said the funding would help develop the information centre, incorporating public toilets, a meeting space and an interpretive centre.
The money would come from uncommitted Regional Partnership funds.
Ms King said the centre was a fantastic local initiative, which would hopefully lead to both social and economic benefits for Creswick.
"I have worked closely with members of the Creswick community and know how much effort they have put into this project," Ms King said.
Hepburn Shire Council has already committed $250,000 for the project.
Products and information from the Forest Resort, the School of Forestry, Forest Nursery, bed and breakfasts, cafes, the museum and local scenic and historic attractions including Park Lake and Calembeen Park, will be displayed
at the centre.
Hepburn Shire tourism, economic development and recreation manager Geoff Ryan said the shire was thrilled with any project support.
He said the shire had applied for $450,000 of Federal Government funding, and hoped to receive that regardless of who was in power.
"The money that's been announced will be a major component of the overall budget and will really help to encourage other governments, whether state or federal, to support the project," Mr Ryan said.
"Creswick is becoming an alive place, with lots of things being developed there, with a positive impact on Creswick, and if we get the Interpretive Centre off the ground, it will complement that."
