Kids go cock-a-hoop for Olympic basketballer Rachel Sporn

29 Jun, 2010 12:12 PM
CRESWICK North Primary School students were delighted last week to finish term with an inspiring visit from Olympic basketballer Rachael Sporn Principal Scott Phillips said Ms Sporn attended the school's final Friday assembly where she spoke about where it all began for her.

"The kids have just got their reports and it's an opportunity to think about the grades they're setting for themselves at school and in life," Mr Phillips said.

"We are lucky to have someone who has been to three Olympic games."

Ms Sporn, who was born in Murrayville, was a member of the Australian Olympic basketball team, winning a bronze medal at the 1996 Atlanta Games and silver medals at the 2000 Sydney Games and the 2004 Athens Games.

"One of our values at the school is to always do your best," Mr Phillips said.

"She emphasised the hard work she put in and the goals she set for herself and the kids really listened."

The aunt of a Creswick North Primary School student, Ms Sporn currently lives in Adelaide where she is an Ambassador for the Premiers Reading Program.
