THE Missed Bu$iness Guide was launched in Hepburn late last month.
Mayor Bill McClenaghan launched the guide, which encourages operators to think of access in terms of built environment, attitudes, communication and alternative ways of marketing.
Councillor McClenaghan said the "beauty of addressing accessibility" was that it benefited everyone.
"All of us at some point of our lives will be relieved and delighted when we find a ramp because you've just had a hip replacement, or you are pushing a child in a pram; or you can read a menu when you've left your specs at home because it is in large print," he said.
"Accessibility is a concept relevant to more than just infrastructure; it also relates to attitude, awareness, language, services and information.
"As a result, access is provided to a diverse community including all societal groups regardless of gender, race, ability or sexuality."
Cr McClenaghan said the word access had a sister word - inclusion.
"When we talk about access we are talking about inclusion of everyone," he said.
"Increasing customer base for all businesses in the Hepburn Shire at a time of economic downtown is essential for the survival of businesses and communities."
The Missed Bu$iness Guide will be sent to businesses and is also available from shire offices.
