DAYLESFORD residents turned out in the hundreds to mark Anzac Day yesterday in the Hepburn Shire.
About 350 residents attended various ceremonies, which began with a dawn service slanted heavily towards youth.
Two senior students from Daylesford Secondary College spoke about youth and the spirit of Anzac.
The Returned and Services League Daylesford sub-branch president John Goullet said the branch had
organised a youth focus for the past two years to generate interest among younger community members.
‘‘This was the highlight of the day,’’ Mr Goullet said. ‘‘It was a wonderful turnout and is certainly a significant
event each year for Daylesford.’’
Later in the town’s commemorative service, Hepburn Shire councillor Rod May spoke about the change in
values from 1915 to today’s society.
Chris Sinclair was the lone piper, while Jack Walker sounded The Last Post on the trumpet.
This was followed by a march of about 160 people, including pupils from St Michael’s, Daylesford and
Hepburn Springs primary schools and Daylesford Secondary College.
Emergency services also took part.
