Hospital flight for elderly crash victim

02 Feb, 2010 12:33 PM
A 70-YEAR-OLD Daylesford woman was airlifted to Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with internal injuries after a Mercedes station wagon driven by a 30-year-old Melbourne man failed to give way at a stop sign last week and collided with her Toyota Corolla.

Daylesford Police Sergeant Andrew Guiney said the accident occurred at 7.55pm on Monday, January 25 in Daylesford.

The Mercedes was travelling north along Fulcher St and approached the stop sign at the intersection of Central Springs Rd.

"It appears the car failed to stop and it certainly failed to give way," Sgt Guiney said.

"Being in a 50 zone with a clearly visible stop sign it is absolute stupidity of drivers not to stop and give way."

The force of the collision forced the Corolla to have a head-on impact with a light pole. The 30-year-old male driver and his 29-year-old female passenger, also from Melbourne, were uninjured. Sgt Guiney said alcohol was not a factor in the accident. "It is essentially just careless driving,"

he said. "Police are still considering the most appropriate charge."
