Hepburn Springs and Daylesford businesses open to spoiling residents

HEPBURN Shire may be a tourist Mecca but there are plenty of specials for locals.

A number of restaurants and businesses offer discounts for residents keen to make the most of living in the shire.

First off, on Monday nights, is Mercato@Daylesford, which offers a main meal and glass of wine for $25.

It has proven popular with bookings pretty much essential to ensure a table.

Open since just last year but already a must visit on most locals dine-out cards is Hepburn Spring's Cosy Corner.

Tuesdays are for curries and casseroles with a choice of up to six dishes depending on what takes Shane the chef's fancy.

The meals, from 6pm, are $16 and include rice, salad, flat bread and a choice of main meals with vegetarian options.

As of September 1, Sault, at Sailors Falls, is changing its local's night from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Owner Damien Aylward said the evening offered locals "the opportunity to come out and experience fine dining at a very reasonable price".

The menu changes weekly making use of fresh, local produce with main meals just $22.50 including a glass of red or white wine or $27.50 for the chef's special.

The Old Hepburn Hotel offers The Frugal Feast every Monday with main meals $12 and children's meals 5.

Co-owner Jason Dooley said that while every night was "locals' night" the Monday menu offered diners, whether singles, couples, families or friends, the chance to go out for a "cheap and cheerful" meal.

Also in Hepburn Springs, for those who enjoy a breakfast out, is Red Star Cafe and its "free-range eggs with three sides" for just $9.

The deal is available weekdays from 8am to noon.

And it's not just food for thought. Plant lovers can take advantage of Daylesford's The Secret Garden's locals' discount of 10 per cent off all stock on Tuesdays.
