Glenlyon set to sizzle, come rain, hail or shine

30 Jan, 2007 10:44 AM
GLENLYON will turn up the volume this weekend at its second music festival.

To be held at the Glenlyon Recreation Reserve on Saturday, Glenfest promises to give visitors an opportunity to listen to diverse music and an eclectic mix of attractions for people of all ages and interests.

The Glenlyon Music Festival committee hoped to break last year's barrier of attracting between 800 and 1000 people to the event.

Secretary Mim Dineen said organisers had accommodated for all kinds of weather.

"We hope the weather is kind to us," she said.

Focusing on local health, wellbeing and the environment, Glenfest will also cater for children with a visit from the Fairy Dragon Fly, fairy wing making, face painting, hip hop and jazz dance classes and drumming workshops.

There will also be local stalls featuring environmental social groups, gemstones, clothing and plenty of food.

Ms Dineen said there was enough room for everyone to come along and enjoy the festival.

"Bring a picnic rug," she said.

The band line-up includes Carus and the True Believers, Rob Sawyer, Unwanted Men in Black and a Lady, Irie, Tyquins, Pontiac Slim, Temple of Tunes, The Gall, Sparnetts, Hijackd and DJ Sunset.

FReeZA battle of the bands entrants will compete for prizes of $50, $75 and $100 between 12pm and 2pm.

Ms Dineen said there was only one stage at this year's festival.

A courtesy bus will transport people to and from the venue. It will leave from Home Hardware in Daylesford between 12pm and 3pm about every two hours. It will return from 9pm to 12pm every two hours.

Glenfest will be held between 12pm and 1am.

Early bird tickets cost $10 concession, $20 for adults and $40 for a family and are available from Teeka's Bazaar in Daylesford, the Glenlyon General Store or go to www.glenfest.com.au

Tickets can be purchased on the day for $15 concession, $25 adults or $45 family.
