LESLEY Baragwanath's longing to work for peace has kept her as a rotarian for 12 years.
Now, Ms Baragwanath will be continuing her service to the community as the Rotary Club of Daylesford's newest president.
Set to serve for a one-year term, Ms Baragwanath will act in this role for the 2010/11 Rotary year.
She said her belief in acting towards the betterment of humanity would act as a foundation for her work.
``We can't ignore the plight of others and rotary allows us to address some of those concerns of health, poverty, hunger and well-being of people not only in our community but all around the world,'' Ms Baragwanath said.
The Rotary Club of Daylesford was established in 1953 and currently has close to 20 members.
Recently, the club offered programs for health screening, early childhood development and opportunities for the youth of Daylesford.
Some projects that the club will undertake this year include the refurbishment of the rotary rotunda at Wombat Hill Botanical Gardens, staging of the inaugural Art Show and supporting the Schools Music Concert this month.
Ms Baragwanath said she felt honoured and humbled to have been selected to lead the club in the upcoming year.
``The club can't give to its community if we don't look after one another, so my focus will be on the members and on continuing the incredible list of programs already in hand,'' she said.
