Family fun day at Daylesford show

21 Nov, 2006 12:58 PM
VICTORIA Park is set to come alive this weekend as the 134th annual Daylesford and District Agricultural Show hits town.

Held at the Victoria Park showgrounds, the show will display farm animals including horses, sheep, goats, rabbits, dogs, pigeons, poultry and alpacas.

Daylesford Agricultural Society secretary Sandra Melen said despite the drought, the Victoria Park showgrounds remained green, with shade, and beautifully maintained by the Hepburn Shire.

"Many of our visitors say the showgrounds are among the prettiest they have competed at," she said.

"It's always a good family day out."

One of the highlights of this year's show will be a display by Fiona Chambers of Fernleigh Farms in Bullarto. She will show her rare animal breeds including miniature pigs and horses, along with organic produce.

There will also be a Pitstop Men's Health intervention display and screening stations by the Hepburn Health Service.

Special guest will be football legend Tom Hafey. Ballarat Holden has donated overalls and a door prize and will have its latest vehicles on display.

Arts and crafts, photography, cooking, gardening and farm produce will be on display in the pavillions.

For youth, there are entry events, plenty of rides, fairy-floss and traditional clown ball competitions.

There will also be a Junior Miss Showgirl and a Mr Showboy.

For the adults, the Daylesford City Band will perform and there will be a display of vintage tractors and engines.

The show opens at Victoria Park at 9am. Family tickets $20, adults $7 and children $3.

Inquiries: Ms Melen on 5348 7997.
