Erin discovers how sweet it is to be kind

27 Jun, 2007 04:45 PM

CRESWICK North Primary School is the latest school to be involved in the Act of Kindness rewards program.

Pupil Erin Morris-Flynn received a cupcake in recognition of kindness in the Creswick community and at school.

The program was introduced in Ballarat after a businesswoman wanted to acknowledge kind behaviour and place less emphasis on anti-social behaviour.

After the London bombings in July 2005, Marion Parsonage was concerned about the fearful conversations she heard in her cafe.

Since then she has supported numerous schools in Ballarat which each week recognises a student's act of kindness.

Creswick North Primary School principal Pat Tacey said the program was a fantastic addition at the school.

"It's an award that you can't set out to win because it recognises good things that are done away from the spotlight," he said.

The program has grown to include more than 20 schools nationwide with another 1500 programs to begin in 2008. Creswick Lions Club is supporting the school by sponsoring the project.
