HAVE you ever seen an unearthly vision in the street or heard footsteps in an empty room or even seen an apparition in the window?

If so, put pen to paper and write your true ghostly encounter down.

Residents of the Hepburn Shire are being invited by The Convent, Daylesford with Spookspotters Paranormal Research, to take part in a competition to win two double passes, every two weeks for the next eight weeks, to one of Spookspotters' popular ghost tours to The Convent Gallery.

Rich in history, the popular tourist destination is said to be haunted by 23 nuns from the order of Presentation Sisters who lived and worked at the site from the 1890s onwards.

Participants in the twice-weekly, two-hour ghost tour can expect not just a tour of the beautiful and historic building, but the experience of paranormal activity.

This includes hearing footsteps in empty rooms, shuffling, the murmurings of nuns like "a group of ladies talking in the next" and the sound of wooden furniture being moved in empty upstairs rooms.

Spookspotters' paranormal researcher and mother-of-eight Janine Wilson said the site had a rich tapestry of factual history, coupled with unearthly occurrences.

"People coming along to one of our tours can expect almost anything. We do get quite a few sceptics who come along and cannot explain what they have either seen or heard and it gives them something to think about," Ms Wilson said.

"We believe the nuns are still at the convent because they have an attachment to the place. One nun we know lived and worked there for 59 years, so where else would she go?

"One of our mediums, who conducts the tours and explains the paranormal happenings of the convent frequently, has a mother superior we believe to be Sister John-Byrne, following her around telling her things."

The tours are divided into two sections.

The researcher will give a history of the place while a medium investigates the paranormal and explains what is happening.

On arrival, guests are given a glass of wine for "courage" and a tea or coffee at the end of the event.

The competition will be judged by two members of Spookspotters and each winner will receive a double-pass valued at up to $90 to a tour of their choice.

How sadly I am to know that of the mystic tales I could recount, they would be to no avail for my residence is forbidden.....
