Drought Recovery Committee approved

27 Feb, 2007 09:52 AM
HEPBURN Shire Council's Drought Recovery Committee was approved last week in recognition of the severity of the drought and its effect on the community.

A council meeting held on January 11 identified the need to form a Drought Recovery Committee.

A report at the council's recent monthly meeting said the initial meeting may not have invited all parties that should be part of the committee.

Council's director of corporate services Chris Cowley said the intention was to allow the committee membership to "evolve over time".

The committee currently consists of council officers, councillors, external agencies and community representatives.

"One of the main drivers for the formation of a Drought Recovery Committee was to provide a conduit for our residents and ratepayers to access the available information regarding the drought," Mr Cowley said.

The committee has set up a link on council's website for people to access relevant information, published a brochure and will hold formal meetings for rural residents and businesses.

The committee will meet every two months.
