HIGH Spa angus stud will be participating in the inaugural Stock and Land Beef Week Spring 2007.
The Daylesford stud - the biggest angus stud in the Central Highlands - will be putting out the welcome signs on Saturday, August 25, from 9am.
As is the case with autumn Beef Week, the Mobbs family will once again offer a range of activities to complement an impressive display of bulls, heifers and cows.
A series of seminars will begin at 11am sharp covering topics such as animal health, nutrition of animals at various ages and to suit different markets and supplying cattle into the Certified Australian Angus Beef program.
Brian Mobbs said: "Predominantly this is an autumn-calving area, but there are a few herds that are spring calving and that is the reason why we have gone in."
As a seedstock producer, High Spa supplies both markets.
Weatherwise, Mr Mobbs pointed out that, with Spring Beef Week falling in August, there was a 75 per cent to 80 per cent chance of getting inclement weather, whereas with the Autumn Beef Week the risk there was of getting
a Total Fire Ban day.
Spring Beef Week begins on Friday with studs to the immediate west of Ballarat through to the South Australian border being open.
Studs in central Victoria will be open on the second day, followed by Gippsland on day three, northern Victoria on day four and the Riverina on day five.
In all, more than 80 studs representing 19 breeds will participate.
"The new Stock and Land Spring Beef Week promises to be just as useful a marketing tool as its autumn predecessor," Rural Press Victoria general manager Colin Baulch said.
"Autumn Beef Week has fast become Australia's biggest cattle showcase and the new spring event will open the way for even more studs to get on board the Beef Week concept."
