Daylesford SES and ambulance facilities set to open in December

21 Jul, 2009 12:12 PM
CONSTRUCTION is well underway on the new Daylesford SES/Ambulance stations.

The stations are being build on the corner of the Midland Highway and Central Springs Rd with a December opening planned.

Ballarat East State Labor MP Geoff Howard met with Hepburn Shire SES unit controller David Wellings and SES volunteers Davina Pickering and Colin Priest at the site last Friday.

The new facility, being built by AW Nicholson Constructions, will house the two emergency services and will include garages for emergency vehicles, operation and communications rooms, laundry and kitchenette facilities, and meeting/training facilities for staff and volunteers.

The Hepburn SES unit was formed 12 months ago and 24 volunteers were recruited. The unit has been helping with callouts since November last year.

In February the Daylesford unit also sent volunteers to Marysville and Kinglake.

Mr Wellings said the need for a SES unit in the area was obvious.

``It should be remembered that the population more than doubles on any given weekend or holiday,'' he said.

The site may also eventually include a new Daylesford Police Station.
