Daylesford Rotary Club clocks up 55 years service

16 Dec, 2008 11:21 AM
THE Daylesford Rotary Club has been giving to the community for 55 years.

President Garry Rodoni said the club was proud to celebrate its 55th anniversary.

"Over that time we have had well over 100 members who have worked together with many more friends and relatives on countless projects in our shire community," he said.

"Projects have included community gardens, picnic facilities, smoke alarms for the elderly, the Rotary Craft Fair, assisting with the farmers market each month and managing community marquees for the council.

"Other projects include a Community Fundraising Breakfast, cooking breakfast for students at the secondary college, helping with the Easter Art Show and the Bowel Scan Community Program."

Mr Rodoni said the club had raised money for many community groups and projects including the Daylesford Museum, Murray to Moyne cyclists, school children's projects, Daylesford Municipal and Brass Band, student scholarships, painting the Senior Citizens Club Rooms and Riding for the Disabled.

Another important area was the Rotary Youth program for enrichment, which saw several students sponsored each year to attend a self-development course, he said.

"We also support the Rotary overseas student exchange program where we sponsor a local student going overseas for up to 12 months or someone coming here from overseas," he said.

Meanwhile, the club has also awarded annual business and employee Awards at the council's Australia Day ceremony with nominations open until January 12.

Categories include the Business Award for Excellence, Employee Award for Vocational Excellence and the Robin Smith Memorial Apprentice/Trainee Award.

Mr Rodoni said it was important to recognise individuals and businesses in the wider shire community who achieved excellence in service and who demonstrate civic dedication in their work.

Nomination forms are available from the Daylesford Visitor Information Centre or call 5321 6123.
